Walk leader:

Chris welcomed everyone and thanked the members for the contributions to the coffee morning.

  • Volunteer survey sheets were circulated to members. Gary Frazer has asked the Friends of the Parks to complete these and return them to Joan Eggleston or hand them into Ocean road Community centre.
  • The Heritage Walk will take place on Saturday 9th September at 11:00am. Please meet at The Lifeboat. The cabin will be available at 10am for people to use to change into period costume.
  • The bandstand garden is looking good. A lot of hard work has been made a fantastic impact on the area around the bandstand. This was given a boost on Saturday morning when a team of gardeners arrived to dig out weeds and cut back bushes. The Friends continue to meet there every Tuesday and Friday at 1pm.Join us if you can.
  • So far, The Bands in the Park have proved a huge success…..Barely Human attracted approx.250 people, despite the rain. The weather was our enemy again on 22nd July when Rose Parade performed. Rain fell for the full 2 hours but most people stayed to listen to Jen Steven’s beautiful singing. About 550 people joined the Friends to listen to Rivelino. The sun shone-YAY!!! Chris thanked everyone involved in making these afternoons a great success.
  • There are 3 more Saturday concerts:

12th August        Cats Night Out

19th August         Little Big Band

2nd September    Just So

  • Everyone is welcome to The Community Garden on Bank Holiday Monday 28th August at 1pm. The pentanque terrains will be open and the gardeners will hopefully have some of their homegrown produce available. Bring nibbles and pray for a nice day.
  • Peter Dutton brought to members attention that there are still a few issues with various areas of the South Marine Park. Joan has previously emailed council officers with no follow up from them. It was agreed that another email will be sent to them as a matter of urgency.
  • This year’s AGM will be held on Thursday 7th September at noon. Everyone will be given written notification before the date.
  • Next meeting 7th September
