Chris welcomed everyone to the monthly meeting

  • The litter pick was very successful. The weather was glorious. Approximately 10-12 members took part and we were joined by 6 members of the public who were very interested in the Friends of the Parks. About 15 bags of rubbish were collected.
  • The Westoe Village Farye is on Saturday 16th The Friends are planning to run a bottle stall and baked goods. It would be fantastic if every member could donate 1 bottle of ‘something’. Any baked goods can be brought to the fayre on the day. There will be more information at the next members meeting in June.
  • On Tuesday 22nd May, the Alzheimer’s Group are inviting members to The Community Garden to join in with games of pentanque. Liz Williams has invited The Gazette to take photos. This is part of Dementia Action Week.
  • Chris and Joan met with Richard Barber to discuss updates from HLF. Permission to spend has been given. The position of park officer has been advertised. Richard will keep the Friends informed on all aspects of any decisions made. Work on the North Marine Park will begin later in the year.
    • There was a meeting with Jade about issues in the South Marine Park. Some of the items discussed were:
    • The recent act of vandalism on the waterfall
    • Problems with the bandstand-guttering and electrical
    • Perspex being replaced on the notice boards
    • Possible addition of baby changing facilities in the male toilets
    • The Summer bands have been booked. The schedule is as follows:

    28th July           Little Big Band

    4th August       The Gaslighters

    11th August     Cats Night Out

    18th August     Barely Human

    1st Sept            Rose Parade

    • The Friends can contribute £965.38 towards the cost and we are still waiting to hear if we are successful in our CAF award. The concerts will be more of a fund-raising event than in previous years. Hopefully donations and the sale of refreshments will go a long way to paying for the bands next year.

    • Next cabin meeting 7th June
